Mayoralty House which was erected by the Corporation in 1765 to accommodate municipal receptions and other such functions. It is a finely detailed pedimented building, two storeys high, of local limestone. The windows on the ground floor are roundheaded, while an elegant venetian window on the upper storey lends further distinction to the house. The gable end of each row, situated at right-angles to the street, has inset a blank half-moon recess, and the two groups of houses are linked by an arch bearing the inscription "St. John's Home, 1816" and the town's crest, a star and crescent. From this little square, a fine view may be obtained of the Tholsel, with Millmount and the southern slopes of the town in the background....

Built in the early fifteenth century as the residence of the priests who were employed to continuously chant the mass for church benefactors. It is one of the few surviving chantry houses left in Ireland....
